After getting flooding with comments about updating my website I figured I should update my website. Things have been busy but good though the month of January. A few bumps on the road but mostly smooth sailing. Apparently my traffic on my blog has tripled from last month so I should throw an update here.
I’ve been spending a good amount of time at the Grand Rapids Library. It’s utterly amazing the amount of knowledge and media is stored at a library. I’ve been able to get travel books, books on cat care, and tons of DVD’s and music CD’s. All completely free. Currently I have the first season of “Six Feet Under” out and have a few holds placed on items. I recommend to all to get a library card ASAP.
As expected I’ve been keeping up with 24. This season is shaping up to be quite fantastic. The with the new information revealed this week really did change up what could have just been a boring filler episode into something to think about till next week. It was also nice to have a week off from working on the bauercount site.
Speaking about bauercount the response from fans has been just overwhelming. As much as I NEVER though this possible media requests have come though and when I get some more concrete information of when people will be able to read or view any of this I will post about it here. Again, many thanks to everybody that has made the site what it is today!
Quickly, today I and an interview with Fox 17 Grand Rapids about the site. It’s just surreal a small idea comes to something like this. I started off very nervous as I’ve never done anything like this before in my life but I think the end result will be pretty damn cool. Having my roommates there calmed me down I couldn’t imagine doing anything like this on live TV. I would have vomited on my shoes. Regardless as of now the story is going to air on February 6th and I will make sure to post here if there is any changes to that.
Looking forward to vanberge’s super bowl party…..brb
When I woke up and noticed vanlandw.com wasn’t connecting to the mysql database I knew today wasn’t going to JUST be the “24″ season premiere.
After figuring out every site on the-bob.org was dead I thought what could be the only thing that could do that. With sleep in my eyes on a whim I went to digg and found the bauercount website was submitted to the front page.
About 45 minuets of hitting the front page of digg the mysql server on the-bob was not responding. I started chatting with jjafuller and decided the site needed to be moved. The downtime for the site honestly wasn’t bad but just crazyness. The last thing I thought would happen today was happening. DNS entries were done redirects and god knows what else.
Countless thanks to jjafuller for all his help. Every “24″ fan that enjoyed the page today owes him a mammoth thanks.
After going to get coffee and hitting Costco and Meijers with the gato I got back to my “abode” and started getting ready for 8pm and making sure bauercount was still working.
The premiere was amazing I’ll talk about it after the episodes tomorrow.
After everything I thought winded down I get a phone call from vanbergs while he is at work. Apparently a Fox Affiliate in Washington D.C. ran a 24 story and included bauercount in their story. Link to the video (minor season 6 spoilers with clips but nothing TOO awful if you love vanlandw you will watch the video).
My heavens the video is so funny. Bloodthirsty, obsessive, dedicated….SHEER….it’s so freaking hysterical. Please watch the video before the website takes it away because I don’t have a way to save it. Tom Fitzgerald is the man.
To sum this up I’m very sorry to anybody with a website on the-bob. I didn’t mean to take your websites down today and it should never happen again. Just a crazy and amazing day.
As should be known I’m the CEO of bauercount.com; a website that tracks Jack Bauer kills while he saves the day in the universe known as “24″. This post may sound morbid but with Season 6 starting Sunday I wanted to give an exclusive look into my favorite violent moments from my favorite television series.
This post started in response to some of the comments on the site. People are saying what their favorite kills were and it just got me thinking. My list is not going to be in any specific order. When making “top” lists I always have a problem picking something that stands above and beyond something else. My “favorite movies” lists are always “my top 10 favorite movies” but I don’t think I have a “favorite movie”. This list will be the same way. I am picking my five favorite kills….countless spoilers for the first five seasons. Clicking on the first links will take you to bauercount so you can watch videos if a refresher is needed.
1. Season 4 Kill 38 Random Terrorist - At this point in Season 4 Jack is going after the Nuclear Football. His backup as all been killed thus he needs to use some Macgyver skills to get the advantage over the terrorists. He puts some bullets in a coffee can and uses it as a diversion to get closer to his target for a better shot. The enemy has a high vantage point and to get a head shot Jack says “hey” just so softly to get his attention then blasts him. A very hysterical kill.
2. Season 5 Kill 20 Random Henderson Commando - Violence like this sets 24 apart from any other network television. A polar opposite kill from #1 this is a very violent and cold death. Jack and Wayne Palmer are attempting to get Evelyn’s child in exchange for the “recording” and to clear the way Jack is just waxing people left and right to get into position to save the day. This random commando dies a brutal death… two shots right in the heart through the back. When watching this for the first time with vanbergs was a pretty big “holy shit” moment for me. I’m sure after five seasons it’s getting tough for the writers to keep coming up with ways to have Jack eliminate his enemy’s but this one was pretty clever.
3. Season 2 Kill 30 Aimless Kingsley Henchman - Why this list is starting with characters without names is awkward but of all the kills this one is just remarkable. At the thrilling conclusion to season two 24 viewers were given their first glimpse that Jack and whoop some ass in a fist fight. After getting the evidence needed to stop global warfare Jack and Sherry Palmer are trying to escape. Some brute comes around and stops Jack in his tracks. A fist fight occurs and ends with Jack wall running and breaking his fellow gladiator’s neck. Keep in mind for the last four hours Jack has been traveling LA having a heart attack makes this accomplishment even more amazing.
4. Season 3 Kill 9 Nina Myers - Some 24 fans may feel this was not a fitting death for Nina. As the number one foil for Jack in three seasons some didn’t want her to die. Others say it just should have been different. To this day I still think it was perfect. A select few know of my exploits the night watching this episode air. I think the perfect word to sum up my mood was “elation”. Again a cold and brutal death was the only way this would have worked. When accounting the shooting to CTU officials Jack said it was self defense. To the viewer this was retribution, revenge, and border line first degree murder. “No, you don’t…” so badass.
5. Season 1 Kill 7 Ira Gaines - I’m picking this one not for the actual conclusion but for everything before the face to face confrontation. The rescue of Jack’s family defines the term “loan wolf”. The first 12 hours of 24 will always be my favorite and the killing of Ira Gaines is the conclusion. Against all odds, sniper rifle vs Sig, Jack outwits Ira and gives him every opportunity to end the confrontation without violence. Ira feeling he’s screwed anyways tries to go for the kill and gets dropped. A fantastic sequence chronicled on bauercount for multiple viewings.
There are my five favorite Jack Bauer kills. There are many more I enjoy but my choices are the ones that stick out. Hopefully season 6 will provide fans with many more fun action filled moments. What is everybody’s favorites…anything I missed?
With all the “hoopla” regarding the iPhone and Apple TV very few people are writing about absence of any OS X information. Personally my interest of actually buying a $600 telephone or a media device for my 20 inch TV is very slim thus this keynote did next to nothing for me. Yes the products are exciting and look amazing for but somebody already deeply invested in Apple products the information released today does not impact me.
Note one single note of information was given about 10.5. This can only really mean one thing. It’s going to be later rather then sooner consumers are going to see an update. At least we got John Mayer!
Engadget’s Macworld Coverage

Upgraded wordpress thus this is the kind of post my fanatic readership gets. Last week I apparently won this beautiful star with my name on it. To be honest I’m quite proud of my pretty award. I work with a lot of good hard working people and to be singled out like that was humbling.
I also made some small changes to my “theme”. My fellow vans hated my old banner graphic so it got replaced. My photography skills are a joke so I stole another picture from flo.
Another thing to make note of in this post of random-ness Bauer Count went though an upgrade. jjafuller updated the overall theme of the site also with a new admin abilities so updating will be quicker and easer. Comments can also be left for every kill so if I bang something up I won’t get a thousand e-mails I can just check the comments. For the upcoming season 6 (OMG six days away….) I will try to update right after the episodes but don’t hate me if it doesn’t happen but rest assure they will be up ASAP. Hopefully I will get the help I did from last season on weapons and videos. Regardless I’m pretty excited for next Sunday.
One last note. Sunday me and the gatoz went to the movies and watched “Children of Men”. Personally I loved the movie and urge everybody to see it. As somebody who likes 1984, Half-Life 2, Clive Owen, England, and badass action sequences I couldn’t dislike this movie. Of movies that have come out in the last year it’s one of the few I could see picking up the day it comes out on DVD.
Also Logans Roadhouse provided me with maybe the best dinner I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Just so I never forget how perfect my meal was I am going to write it down in this post R***y/eric vanberge style.
- Countless Peanuts
- Corona w/ Lime
- 4 Rolls with copious amounts of butter
- 6oz Filet Mignon
- Baked Potato with copious amounts of salt and butter
- Macaroni and Cheese
Oddly enough of the four other people I went to Logans with my meal was the smallest. LMAO this post is over…..
I’ve been getting more and more spam comments on my blog. Some of them are quite vulgar and for that I am sorry. Soon I will be looking to upgrade the spam protection and I’m looking for some ideas. I really don’t want to approve every comment that comes though but I also don’t want to have people go though some round about way to comment on the site. I do have Akismet running but too many foul messages have been coming though.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Bloglines brought me to a post that made a lot of sense. Also it gives my readership a post I wasn’t planning on writing. As far as I can remember I never wrote a new years resolution post. Maybe I’m vain or just private or never had any good resolutions. Most people say they want to lose weight I think my resolutions were always to either spend my money wiser or work harder at work (both to a degree have been acomplished).
This post made a lot of sense to me. Instead of making new years resolutions replace the New Year’s Resolution List with a New Year’s Gratitude List. Honestly resolutions really are quite negative. They are things you have FAILED to accomplish and from what I’ve gathered most resolutions don’t stick. There isn’t very much vanlandw can improve on either
2007 New Year’s Gratitude List
(don’t worry this will NOT be religious or preachy to any regard)
- I’m grateful for having a wonderful lady in my life who lives right down the street who can put up with my oddness
- I’m grateful for having a wonderful family who gave me a wonderful holiday season.
- I’m grateful for having a small group of friends who adore Guitar Hero just as much as I do.
- I’m grateful for working for a company that won’t likely fire me anytime soon.
- I’m grateful for living in large house with running water, heat, and a dishwasher.
- I’m grateful for 24 coming back for another season.
- I’m grateful for The Shield coming back for another season.
- I’m grateful Twilight Princess FINALLY was released.
- I’m grateful towards myself for starting to read the the Sword of Truth series.
I’m sure right after I post this I’ll think of more but honestly it doesn’t matter. 2006 was a pretty good year for vanlandw when everything was said and done. I made more money then I ever have, took some great small vacations, was a “groomsman” for a friend that became married, and did a lot of fun things. 2007 should be more of the same. Busy but fun.
