dragonlordfrodo is BACK!

For the longest time dragonlordfrodo had the hottest blog on the internet. I first heard about him on the Cheapassgamer Fourms where he seemed to be infamous for posting very odd pictures of himself and his personal pride about his weight. I then started to read his Blurty Blog that was hysterical (bun and froggie). At his peak of popularity he even had his own domain and wordpress blog that again was hysterical. The comments just bashing his person when all he was doing was being candid was my favorite part.

One day the blog died. From what I’ve heard the gentleman hosting the site for him went D.O.A. and his former site is in ruins. The blog is dead and the DLF fourms hacked. Fast forward to today. I get a random IM from a DLF fan notifying me of his new blog. He seems to still be gabbing about chicken finger subs and pirating various digitial media.

Regardless if you are fans of unique blogs please read DLF and his various archives.  I still find his writing style to be interesting.

Vanlandw Imposter on Myspace

Apparently the unthinkable has FINALLY ran it’s course.  After my much vocal displeasure with myspace somebody has created a vanlandw myspace profile. At first glance one MIGHT think I created this page or at least condoned it but futher invesigation that is not the case.

The first thing that should just scream to people “vanlandw didn’t create this!” has to be the main profile picture.  I may not hold myself in the highest regard but no way would I promote myself by displaying myself stuffing food down my face.  If I did have any reason to have a “profile” I would use this picture over anything.

Next has to be just the glaring issues with my “Interests”. I hate to say the “General” section is pretty dead on but I wouldn’t be so blunt.  “HI EVERYBODY I’M WESLEY AND I LOVE HUGE RACKS!”….not very vanlandw if you ask me :-P

Moreover, the movies section is complete BS.  No real male on this planet really enjoys any of the movies listed in my profile and I also wouldn’t make the “justing” typo or say “courage under fire” is a TV program.

I’m not even going to examine the blog entries but clearly those were NEVER scribed by vanlandw.  To sum this up everybody disregard the “vanlandw myspace profile“.  I had no input in it’s creation and I don’t even have the password to remove it.

Vanberge’s Bachelor Party pt.4

The image to the left is about the only picture I could truely find to describe this weekend. Vanberge’s Bachelor party went about as well as I could ever imagine and brought maybe the best man-weekend ever. As everybody already read from pt.1 pt.2 and pt.3 this weekend was setup as the ultimate male experience. NO WOMEN ALLOWED, the brews flowed generiously, and money was no object. This was a weekend centered around vanberge….for VANBERGE! There is a lot to cover and I’m honestly not even going to attempt to do so.

The festivities started with everybody showing up. After much doubt r*********e did fully participate in the to the exent of his ability. Also Payner was able to attend thus making this weekend even more amazing. The first thing we did was consume mass brews, played knockout matches and attacked Mongolian Barbeque. After getting obliterated by rain we checked out the 24 inch iMacs at the Woodland Apple Store. While there I decided the new widescreen iPods should be made out of titanium like the new iPod Nano’s then I would almost upgrade.

Next up was Jackass 2: The Movie. Personally I laughed at pretty much everything in that movie. After the movie was more brews/cigars then I stayed up the latest watching edited Equilibrium on FX while Tom and Payner slumbered.

The next morning we attended paintball at Mayhem Sportz and litterly destroyed everything we could see. In the end we ended up with 9 participants and it was a blast. Sadly I ended up with the worst rental paintball gun known to man. After shooting a few balls it would just totally jam and I would have to take cover and unjam. Team Vanhood was pretty aggressive but everybody played well. Having a one-on-one hand holding battle with r*********e was just utterly amazing.

After showers we battled tornados and traveled up to the casino. The weather was pretty relentless and we made awful time but we made it safe and got to our hotel. Seven grown men after eating two buffets in 24 hours in one room can prove to be quite interesting (and i will prove that in a little bit) but the room was about perfect. Extra blankets and the “floor gets a pillow” rule really made it worth getting one room.

Sadly the casino didn’t go as well….for me at least. The slots handed me my own ass on a platter. I lost tons of money and pretty much hated myself. We did have some winners but really next time I go I’m never spending a dime on a slot. The buffet as the casino was amazing though. I ate mac/cheese, mint cake, and tons of other amazing fried goodness. If I didn’t blow all my money I would have purchased a few more white ru*sian’s for me and vanberge! :-(

After the casino everybody was pretty pooped so we had a drink or two and slumbered. The next morning was INSANITY. I won’t go into any detail but please visit the links below. Honestly it’s kinda “SFW” but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Vanberge Farting mp3’s
Vanberge Farting Remixed mp3’s

Those mp3 files maybe the best thing I’ve ever created. For a prime listening experience I would recommend downloading every file and putting them into their own iTunes Playlist and finding your own personal way of enjoyment. I enjoy listening to them one by one but the mix is my favorite. Also make sure to peep the album art on the remixes :-)

After a fine Continental Breakfast provided by the hotel we brb’ed Mt. Pleasant and came back to Grand Rapids, returned the rental Explorer to watch the Lions get obliterated.

Clearly this was an amazing time. I hardly even touched the surface about this weekend. This was just a little tast for those who didn’t get to experience the sheer maleness/vanhood that took place. Hopefully before the end of the week we should have some video footage of paintball. Also read jja’s post!

Vanberge’s Bachelor Party pt.3

Vanberge’s final weekend of “freedom” is upon us. The plans haven’t changed at all. For Friday night “Payner” and “Tom” should be making their way into GR and it seems we will catch an early showing of “Jackass 2: The Movie” then drink the life out of ourselfs silly and play Guitar Hero at my apartment. Right now we have paintball times 1-4pm on Saturday so we have three hours to shoot the living bejesus out of one another. The plan is to hopefully get to the paintball place at before 1pm so we can be equipped and ready to aim for headshots. People can either meet ot my place early or head straight for Mayhem Sportz.

I’ve been meaing to make a few calls to people. Today I spent most of my day in Grand Rapids waiting for car repairs (another post all in itself) so I maybe making a few calls either tomorrow or Friday to see if any interest is there. Also anybody reading this don’t hesitate to call me either. I hate calling people because I’m bad with schedules and I work at like the worst time that would be perfect to call everybody else. Regardless after paintball is the casino. We have a few surprises up our sleeves so the trip will be after showers and more or less food then we will make our way to Soaring Eagle. The night again will be filled with bars and gambling and random other debauchery that could come from the mind of former Laker Village residents. We have one reservation for a hotel and will be coming back Sunday early afternoon.

I love vanhood….brb…is there anybody I’m missing?

Sunglasses and Reunions

In the past month I’ve been trying to get stuff done I should have a long time ago. I finally got to the dentist to clear up a pesky tooth. This past week I’ve finally got to the eye doctor to get some new sunglasses. For now the picture to the right is the best shot I have of them for now. The frames have a persciption, some anti-glare stuff I can’t remember the name of, and some anti-scratch/break stuff I can’t remember the name of. Sadly it’s been brought to my attention that Tom Cruise has similar frames but I have to say they look much better on me. Next on my list of “todo’s” is getting my car taken in for a tune up. I don’t think it will make it though the winter without getting some care.

I really should have put this all as seperate posts but last week my dad gave me some photos of their trip to the VanLandschoot family reunion. The pictures were originally uploaded on Walmart’s photo service. After spending way to much time on that site to get the high quality versions of the photos (five at a time download is just terrible) I decided to create my own gallery of my family’s trip. The pictures are quite interesting to be honest. There are great photos of Times Square, Bru*sels, and my dad sporting with a manbag similar to mine. Check out the full gallery of photos HERE.

Everybody remember the Vanberge Bachelor Party post. For paintball we are hoping everybody can meet at my place before 11:30 so we can make it to the paintball place at Noon on Saturday. Any questions either get ahold of me or leave a comment I will make sure to have my phone on me and my e-mail open.

iTunes 7

Today Apple CEO Steve Jobs delivered a special announcement from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco (watch here). For Apple fans who are iTunes users and potential iPod buyers today was a pretty big day. New iPods were released/refreshed and iTunes 7 was released.

For as long as I can remember it’s been a love/hate relationship between me and the tunez. I’ve never been a fan of how unresponsive the application is as a whole. When I started with digital music Winamp was my baby and was always quick to the punch. iTunes has always felt slugish and bloatware’ish. On the flipside the playlist functions are always improving and personally I have almost 100GB of music so having flexible playlists is VERY important. Also as a OS X user there aren’t any other viable alternatives to iTunes really.Today I installed iTunes7 and have some gripes and some praise for this release.

For some time I’ve had my music on network shares and right now I have my iMac connected to the network only on wireless. In my living situation it makes it next to impossible to have a straight LAN connection to my network. As an iTunes user this is utterly frustrating. Loading songs in iTunes 7 seems to bring a longer delay when skipping and making updates to mp3 id tags brings once again a long delay.

Once getting iTunes 7 installed I noticed my machine just came to a total crawl. Then I noticed iTunes was doing something I didn’t ask it to.

Right after opening the application it started going though a good majority of my music and doing this process. I never got a prompt I can’t even find a setting to turn it off. When launching iTunes I have to cancel this every time just to make my computer function. Others have reported this process takes just a few minutes but when all my music is shared over a network iTunes seems to HATE it. Any findings on how to make this process better please send it my way ASAP.

Now on to purchased and stolen features. When browsing the iTunes overview website I noticed something I’ve seen before. Coverview was an visualization for itunes I tried out a long time ago and found no use for. Apparently Apple purchased the technology and incorporated into iTunes. To be fair during a party people may find this feature attractive. For everyday use it’s pretty much unimportant.

Also about a week ago I installed the newest Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2. From what I can see iTunes “borrowed” a few playlist options from them. The “show items in a list grouped with artwork” feature seems to be totally ripped from WMP. I can’t ever remember another media player offering this feature and when I tried WMP last week it was my favorite part about it. A comparison….

WMP 11 b2

iTunes7

Quite similar IMO. To be honest this is my favorite feature of iTunes 7. WMP does it better though :-(

To close this way to long post up iTunes 7 is a mixed bag. I like the new playlist options but having my music on a shared network drive is becoming quite a burden. Before upgrading people in a similar situation as myself may want to wait. Personally I’m always on the lookout for fixes and I will post anything I find.

Update: Another reason to hate Apple. While chatting with jja I noticed that Apple must have VERY QUIETLY removed student discounts on iPods. Really…REALLY…weak…shame I’ll never buy another one for a very long time. Jerks

Update 2: Apparently reports have come though of Student Discounts on iPods still available in Brick and Mortar Apple Stores.  Interesting but I bet it won’t last long.

Vanberge’s Bachelor Party pt.2

The stage is in motion for vanberge’s bachelor’s party. It seems decisions have been made on “where and when” paintball is going to be taking place. Mayhem Sports seems to be the chosen location. Apparently if we can get ten guys to go we can have a “private party”. Personally this is the route I would like to go. Five on Five death action. Vans vs Others. I don’t think price should be too much of a concern. On Saturday they are open from 1pm-6pm and equpiment can be rented. After paintball is the casino and gambling. If anybody has any suggestions please drop them either mine or vanbergs’s way.
