Beating the game on both Heroic and Legendary difficulties solo and attempting to get the If They Came to Hear me Beg achievement I died 1003 times so far in the Halo Reach campaign.
Just so you know…

I’m pretty sure I died at least that many times during the multiplayer beta. I am also still attempting CoD:4 on Veteran, solely because I was told I couldn’t do it. Congratulations on your achievements however.
I died 397 times in the multiplayer beta.
I would almost be certain I died more on COD4 veteran but for all the wrong reasons. I would say at least 100 of those deaths in Reach were trying to get that damn achievement and I’m not sure if ‘load from checkpoint’ counts as deaths but I did that many times as well for various reasons.
Halo Reach on Legendary wasn’t too bad and it’s actually the first halo game I’ve completed on legendary solo. For Halo 1 I’m half way though the last level on legendary. Halo 2 is notoriously hard on Legendary I’ve only beaten two levels but I’m not 100% sure of that I might have gotten further.
Halo Reach is ALL about taking your time and picking the right weapons for the job. Many of my deaths were about having the wrong weapons and trying to play aggressive.
I’ve beaten ODST and Halo 3 both on legendary co-op. I completed Legendary co-op under vanbergs’s gamertag so I still need to finish legendary for halo 3 for the achievement. Me and JJA and his brother worked for some of the scoring achievements I believe we made it 3/4′th of the way though before we stopped playing for some reason or another.
For reach I used no guides or videos to finish it so I would say it’s 100% possible to finish on legendary.
I would like to do a Call of Duty War at War veteran run since people say that is the hardest one but I’m holding off on that for now.
Vanlandw I must say I dont understand your self inflicted punishment on video games.
IMO when I play video games like this on such a hard level it makes playing it a complete frustration vs being fun.
I get the sense of accomplishment when you finish on the hardest difficulty; but for me it isnt worth the frustration. I’d rather enjoy the game at this point in my life.
but, GG vanlandw. You are a gamer.
I absolutely don’t play every game on the hardest difficulty. COD4 I was put to the task to beat it on Veteran (and was genuinely frustrating and not fun) but Reach was a lot of fun on Legendary. It didn’t take that much time to do it and there were only a few parts that really stopped me. It’s like a different game. Modern Warfare 2 on Veteran was a lot of fun too and not a huge time sink. Your brother was playing World At War on Veteran so I wanted to see how far I could get but I don’t WANT to do it. More or less I never will to be honest as that would be frustrating and not fun.
Most games I’ll do like five mins of research on the difficulty levels and see what I think I can handle and now sometimes achievements push me to try harder. Part if it is the if I still “have it” bug. Another part is value if I can extend a game a little longer it makes it’s worth higher and I seem to spend less money on games.
I write about them now again to help extend value and I wanted to work on my writing and keep my brain sharp. The type of stuff I do at work is just stupid IT documentation and email crap so writing something compressive here has helped me a lot. Also vanlandw.com for the longest time had absolutely no purpose at all so I made it a little less of a personal site and more like a tumblr site that if anybody visited would maybe find some interest in. My Final Fantasy 10 blog post was like the best thing I’ve ever written that was so much fun and I kinda just rolled with it.
I’ll be the first to admit I have a little extra free time then pretty much anybody I know these days to do stupid shit like this. I would say on average I get a chance to play games 2-3 times a week.
This was way to long sorry
Sadly I have not played a video game since mass effect 2 came out
Sadly I haven’t played D&D since we went with Rusty We gotta hook that up some time.
ME2 maybe aside from Reach is really the only “must play” from this year much can be skipped safely. I am looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas “hardcore” mode tho.
Hopefully we can find a chance to play Reach sometime I have a month of XBL just waiting for anybody who wants to play online
