Halo Movie Director Named

Just in case this doesn’t hit the major news sites I just want to make sure everybody is aware of this. Confirmed from Microsoft it seems the Halo Movie seems to have targeted release date and a director named. According to “Gamasutra” it seems Summer 2008 is the date and Neill Blomkamp will be the director. I know every other nerd on the planet including myself was HOPING Peter Jackson would direct. Instead we get a first time movie director taking the helm in maybe the last movie I am seriously looking forward to.

Personally I hope he does a fantastic job but of COURSE I’m afraid he may just screw it up. From what I’ve read he seems to have potential so I’m not going to be a negative nancy.

Update: Yeah this “Neill Blomkamp” guy sounds like an idiot.  On AICN he gave an interview and about the movie and said an awful thing…

Quint: Will we see Master Chief’s face?
Neill Blomkamp: You’ll have to wait and see.

He should have said flat out “no”….

Quint: As far as Master Chief’s voice, will you consider Steve Downes, who voiced the character for the games or will you more than likely go with a bigger name?
Neill Blomkamp: It’s just too early to be able to know anything like that yet.

He should have said “Steve will voice”….

Quint: I know this is very early, but will any of Marty O’Donnell’s score from the game make it over to the film? Is he a contender to compose the score for the movie?
Neill Blomkamp: It’s just way too early for any decisions like that

He should have said “yes”….

What a noob.

He will do just fine, IMO. Peter Jackson personally recommended and chose Blomkamp. Plus, even though they are fucking assholes, Micro$oft knows that they have some insane expectations to live up to, and they must be aware of the consequences of not meeting those expectations.

I was hoping David Fincher or Ridley Scott was going to take it but if “Blomkamp” can do a good job I clearly don’t care who the director is. :-[

  3. Kramer says:

If it was David Fincher, that would rock my socks off. Oh well.

These movie studios really need to pick it the fuck up. This movie was supposed to be out in 2007, and they are just NOW picking a director. Sheer pathetic.

  5. bun says:

the movie is going to suck. the ONLY movie based off of a video game that fucking rocked me (us) was clearly A vs. P. *brb*

  6. vanlandw says:

russ….if there was a stronger word along the lines of “noob” i would have already called you that

A vs P was one of the worst and most disappointing movies of all time

  7. Jeff says:

Looks like van beat to the punch on this one. bun really is the ubernoob. And, A v. P was just a horrid, disappointing movie. Just awful.

  8. GunBunnie says:

Haven’t seen AvsP, but what about the first Tomb Raider movie? I thought that had a rating that was somewhat above tolerable. Of course, I’m partial to hot women packing heat.

  9. vanlandw says:

A vs P is the type of movie that could have seriously been cool but just ended up being frustrating. I honestly don’t really even want to get into it ;-)

The first Tomb Raider movie was decent but the second one was pretty bad IMHO.

Halo should be the best video game movie second to Mortal Kombat AGAIN…IMHO :-*

  10. Kramer says:

AvP was so horrible, and it could have been really cool.

I remember being angry after we saw it.

  11. Jeff says:

You think the Halo movie should be second to Mortal Kombat? I was going to post a comment agreeing with your the update you made to your post, but…wtf man.

  12. vanlandw says:

What is the best video game movie jja…and if you say resident evil I’m going to kill you. In all honestly the only video game movie that was even CLOSE to anything of the source material was Mortal Kombat. Scorpion said “GET OVER HERE” cinematic history……

  13. Jeff says:

I am saying that Halo should surpass Mortal Kombat. Whatever the best video game movie happens to be at this time will be utterly own’d by Halo.

  14. vanlandw says:

It could be rated PG with Tom Cruise being MC :-[

  15. vanbergs says:

No videogame movie has been ‘good’ by any definition of the word. Mortal Kombat came the closest, but that’s only because they had a kickass song by a supremely shitty band in it. Aside from that, anything that turns a badass ninja’s spear into a living reptilian animal attached to a cord is fundamentally flawed.

Tom Cruise will not be in Halo. There are no F-14 Tomcats or Geese or Scientologists in the Halo universe.

  17. bun says:

speaking of “cheapass”, whatever happened to dlf?

  18. vanlandw says:

lmao i have absolutely no idea what happened to DLF…. a few guys have IM’ed me thinking I knew where he went but in all honestly i have no idea….the fourms are still up but not really “hoppin” :-(
