The Best Buy Rewards Zone Program is a F’n Joke
I forgot to post about this back in June. Email today sent to me from “The Best Buy Rewards Zone Program”
You may remember receiving notification in June 2009 about changes to the Reward Zone® program. This is just a reminder to explain the changes that will be affecting your point balance. Please take a moment to review the important elements of points annualization. What is points annualization?
•In February, Reward Zone program accounts with 250 points are automatically being issued reward certificates to the nearest $5 level
•Any remaining account balance below 250 points will be forfeited
•The annualization of the program is based on your purchases as of December 31, 2009
Apparently Best Buy needed to make up a word to hammer the point home that the Rewards Zone Program is now a joke. What this means is you HAVE to spend $250 dollars with Best Buy within a year to make even being part of the “Program” worth it. If you don’t hit that goal all your purchases are worthless to the program when February rolls around.
Last time I checked I was at about 180 points. Today I’m back down to zero.
I used to carry my Best Buy card with me everywhere. Today I ripped it up and threw it in the trash. Seriously what a bunch of idiots it’s just a worthless matter of control making the customer think their purchases are going to lead somewhere. Honestly it’s not even worth it’s weight in my wallet for a five dollar gift certificate.
With circuit city out of business, they can afford to be “dicks” about this…
Guess I’ll just have to make sure I stay hooked into Newegg/Amazon/etc for all my stuff as much as possible.
Google should buy BuestBuy
Good game vanlandw. I pretty much only make big purchases, or purchases of necessarily there (i.e. emergency power supply replacement). I ended up getting $60 in certificates from the TV I bought back in November.
Also, please fix the tabbing of fields in the comments section. For some reason it goes from Name, to Search, to Email. Kind of jarring.
Please write another post at your earliest convenience.
that sucks. best buy sucks. sorry about that bubba.
Best buy, who are they? I know, they are the next Circuit City. I have completely written off Best buy when they made it all but impossible for me to spend $2,000 in their store when I was looking for a new TV. Yup, you heard me correctly. I was on the prowl for a Samsung 58″ plasma. After going to one store and not finding it there I asked the sale associate about it and he told me it was only available in their “Magnolia” stores. SO I went and drove clear across town to the “Magnolia” store only to find that the sales associate didn’t know jack about the television. While I could get over this since I know all about it I simply asked to buy one. Well, they didn’t carry the model I wanted but they did carry the next one up in the pecking order so I figured why not. It was only a couple hundred more and since it was money form a bonus it really didn’t matter.
Well, then I was told they didn’t stock any EVER, I had to pay, then wait for it to be transfered from a warehouse and then delivered to my house. Being the impatient american I am I left the store with cash in hand. I mean, if I wanted to wait for shipping I would just order online. So, Best buy is dead to me. Everything they carry is available online and for less anyways. They don’t really bring anything to the table except taxes and stupid associates.
Long live NewEgg……
FUCK Best Buy! I fucking hate Best Buy with a passion. Everything’s overpriced, even when on sale. The rewards program IS a joke. I bought a 1600 dollar television from there and a 1100 dollar laptop and not only did I not get any reward points (Yes I HAD a card) But the Television AND the laptop were used. I guess someone didn’t like it and sent it back and I was the lucky one to get it. There were fingerprints all over the laptop screen and on the television. I have much more to complain about but talking about Best Buy just makes my god damn blood boil. Fuck Best Buy. Shop somewhere else PLEASE. Fuck that awful company.
I agree, the Reward Zone program has become worthless. If you’re lucky enough to get the points credited to your account, you only get 2% back. In addition the certificates expire quickly. I just received notice that I have a certificate ready to print and it expires next month already. I’ve had to call repeatedly when large purchases don’t show up on my account after 3 months. I’m cutting up my card too. Best Buy has cheated me at the store a number of times and the card was the only reason I’d consider going there. It’s no longer an incentive. So, I have no reason to give them my money. I shop at newegg and amazon almost exclusively now.
Ive shopped at best buy for years now but not exclusively just to earn points. Ive never put a lot into their point system and never understood why they felt like their giving me this great deal! Spend 250 dollars and earn 5 dollars off of the next purchase is how I see it. Im not going to be drawn in to spend 2000 dollars anywhere only to have a 20 dollar girft card for my next purchase. As far a best buy offering deals like this, I think its rather insulting to its customers however, they don’t have to offer anything at all. This is something I except more than this point system theyve come up with and I really don’t understand why all the fuss! I don’t look for points, I don’t try to get more points. If I want to buy something there, I buy it regardless of this point system. I think its all a joke unless Im not seeing the bigger picture! Maybe someone can inlighten me on how this actually works. My point is, don’t be drawn in by these types of offering. It isn’t a too good to be true offer, it’s just a way for Best buy to say thanks for shopping at their store. The only thing is, their taking back their thank you if you don’t rush in and make another purchase soon! Lol , its all a silly game. One trhat I really don’t put much thought into. Therefore, if im going to buy something from best buy, it most likely will only be because they offered a good deal during the purchase or I shopped around and their price was fair. I am not opposed to shopping at Wal-Mart for a good deal!
