Ef You Treyarch...

Twitter

Yesterday two people in my “social circle” have joined the service Twitter. After reading ad nauseum on various blogs and news sources on how amazing Twitter is I figured I would join up and give it a go.

For people who are not familar with Twitter here is a blub from their front page about the service.

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

In the past I tried Pownce and at that time I wasn’t really in the mood to try a service like that.  Also Pownce seems more along the lines of sharing files and photos then what Twitter is trying to do. I also think Twitter could be a good middle ground for what I’m trying to do with my blog and google reader.

If anybody decides to take the plunge with me I would totally recommend installing a client for sending and receiving updates.  I’ve been using twhirl is a desktop twitter client, based on the Adobe AIR platform. There are many clients to choose from but Twhirl will run on and everything and is free.

My updates will be pretty lame I’m not sure if this service is going to be something I stick with or not but maybe I can try and update at least once a day.  If anybody decides to sign up follow @vanlandw.

Also as you can see enfuego is just a twittering fiend…..you must join to witness this revolution.

    I *heart* enfuegomiguel.

I don’t want to read all that crap. What is the point of Twitter – in 10 words or less?

  3. Megan says:

Ok I read the crap. How is Twitter any different (or better) than AIM?

  4. Adam says:

10 words: Twitter’s purpose is to clutter the internet with useless drivel.

Penny arcade sums up twitter pretty well, too: http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/04/23/

I’ve flat out refused to ever visit twitter’s site ever again, which is pissing off at least one of my friends.

Che – I love enfuego as well :-*

Megan – The only advantage I see is that Twitter is always on where people on AIM are not. It’s kinda a middle point between sending an IM and writing a blog post.

Adam – I love penny arcade I subscribe to their feed. The main thing I like about Twitter is that I can post small thoughts. Not something that warrants a full post but just a doo-dad here and there. It mostly seems like a service for people who are popular or have lots of friends and contacts using it. Right now three people I know are using Twitter I think I would need to know another 100 to make it fully worthwhile. Enfeugo was talking to me about starting an account and not knowing anybody using it so I figured I would give it a shot.

Everyone needs to join Twitter. Vanlandw and Che need to twit more often. I am Enfuego.
