Looking at the source material I know I’m walking right into a publicity stunt for the most part but really this is something I firmly believe in. After recently watching “Hitman” and by default finding it to be the best video game based movie so far while watching yesterday LOTR:TTT I said to vanbergs “I don’t think they will ever make movies that are this cool ever again.” Then I said “If they made a proper Halo based movie they could”.
How in the world with so much good source material how is there not a true good video game movie?
Uwe Boll thats why.
Personally I’ve never seen any of his films but it’s always been a small personal goal of mine to see all the video game based movies. I’ve seen the Mortal Kombat movies and I own the abysmal Super Mario Brothers movie on DVD but never seen a Uwe Boll movie.
Today I stumbled upon this article quoting if a this petition receives a million signatures Mr. Boll will stop butchering video game licenses. I urge all to sign. Time needed was about 40 seconds. The likelihood of this reaching a million signatures is slim but you can’t claim victory if you don’t even try.
I found hitman to be lacking. The guy who plays hitman, with his high-pitched voice trying to sound gravelly and menacing, and his feminine looks (Sorry, he looks like a chick, especially in Die Hard 4) don’t sell him to me as a hitman. He’d be more menacing in a coconut bra, waving around a purse full of cats.
OH i agree fully. Timothy Olyphant was far from the best choice. He didn’t have the right face for the part but at least they TRIED to make him look and act like the character from the game. Sadly I have no idea why they didn’t have him ever use the piano wire but they did have him using syringes and attempted to make a movie in the vain of the game. Also it was rated “R”, violent, and was totally made for dudes so it gets bonus points from me as well because sometimes you just gotta watch an action movie.
For a videogame movie I can’t think of one better other then the First Resident Evil movie but they butchered the story so bad it doesn’t even count. The first mortal kombat movie kinda got it but it was too low budget.
Trust me I >AM< menacing in my coconut bra….ummm :-X!

Seriously, the only good(as in true to source material) video game movies are the Pokemon ones. Why? Because kids have no concept of subtlety. Beyond that, there are too many nuances and substories in most games to be able to make a coherent movie from them.
I really should edit this post. And you make a very good point. The ANIMATED ones seem to be much better then live action. Personally I even like the first Final Fantasy CGI movie. The Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children is without question the best video game movie ever made.
The point you said about substories and shit I was talking to “R***y” regarding a World of Warcraft movie. It’s not that it needs to be 100% faithful (look at LOTR) but just being true to the source material is enough. None of the Live Action based videogame movies seem to really nail it.
Regardless you are right about children as well. You are vo

I know the guy. Trust me, he isn’t a genius.
I do not believe this
