Eight Bars – One Mile Walk

When going though my feeds I stumbled upon an interesting site called Walk Score.

What Walk Score does is “help people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc”.

Living downtown Grand Rapids I’ve always found my neighborhood to be quite walkable.  There are coffee houses, landmarks, libararies, and various location to attend minus a automobile. If I had the extra cash to pony up for a bike my non-car circle would expand.

When running the test for my house I was shocked to find out I live within eight locations that are classified as bars. Also according to their site I wouldn’t count Circle K/Ghetto Mart as a “Grocery Store”.

My house according to their site is “Very Walkable” with a score of 72. They say “It’s possible to get by without owning a car” but they don’t take into consitertion working.  I need to look into taking the Rapid to get to work I would do next to anything to get rid of my car.

Anybody else live in a more “walkable” location?

I scored a walking score of 9/100, meaning that my surrounding area is much nicer.

“Jeff” – You do live in the sticks. I live in the city. We live two utterly different existences.

  3. Jeff says:

I live in a suburban environment. Far from rural.

“Jeff” – You should post some pictures of your home life on your blog or your impending “photoblog”. I would like to see your surroundings.

There isn’t a spot on the map for “Gato’s house – land of free steaks and smoochies”

That should increase your score at least 10%.

    Smoochie. :-*.

    Walk score of 5, bitches.

  7. Kramer says:

Mine is 58, which is complete bullshit.

And walking is for hippies and poor people. Screw that.

  8. Mg says:

Mine was a 69/100, but some of the places were five miles away. A mile walk is fine for me, but much more than that is torture. BRB moving downtown GR.
Also, to Kramer – I’m neither a hippie nor *poor* and I walk to work.

Gunny – A score of 5 is badass I wonder if it’s possible to get any lower. I’m sure you have a truck up in AK to get around :-)

Kramer – that is bullshit. Walking in theory does suck but when your like me and all the exercise you get is by walking it’s a lot better then jogging.

hola – i don’t need no map to chronicle where your home is to remind me of smoochies and beef ;-)

MG – that is a very good score. you should move downtown and obtain smoochies and beef LOL jk walking is good fro you and if I could i would walk to work though rain and shine.
