Big Pharma’s Newest Money-Making Scheme: Adult ADHD

What is the harm in advertising the “disease” of adult ADHD? Since there is no blood or other diagnostic test to confirm it and quizzes are just guesswork, the category easily grows with advertising, a phenomenon called disease-mongering. You have it when a clinician says you have it–which is just fine with Big Pharma.

Just have a conversation with about anybody these days. Everybody has some ADHC in their soul.

This American Life – What Doesn’t Kill You

Stories of how people cope after brushes with death. Sometimes death comes as a disease. Sometimes it swims up and bites you. And sometimes it’s a pen or pencil, sitting there, just waiting for you to ingest it.

Awesome episode this week.

FactCheck.org – Dubious Denver Debate Declarations

Romney: My number one principal is, there will be no tax cut that adds to the deficit. … I will not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans. … I will lower taxes on middle-income families.

But he didn’t say how he’d pull off all those things at once.

He came throwing around a lot of wrong numbers and no solutions. FactCheck.org should help get us all though this election.

Watch Indie Game: The Movie Online | Netflix

This captivating documentary follows several independent game designers as they painstakingly develop their games and hope for breakthrough success. It also explores the quirky sensibility these personalities bring to their art form.

Nice add to Instant Watch. The Meat Boy stuff is worth seeing but there are a lot more interesting indie developers I would have rather seen get attention. Still worth checking out and is well done.

→ The iPad 1

iOS 6 dropped support for the first-generation iPad (“iPad 1”), which was sold from spring 2010 through spring 2011. In other words, everyone who bought an iPad at least 19 months ago has an iPad 1, and their unsubsidized, non-contract, $500+ tablet is going to grow much less useful over the next year as apps start to require iOS 6.

I’ve linked and written about this topic quite a bit in the past. This trend with Apple hardware and ongoing support looks to only get worse. Started with the PowerPC platform looks to be continuing with ARM. Looks like the iPod Fat will forever be the best Apple product ever produced.

Motorola reneges on Android 4.0 software update

Motorola Atrix 4G owners will not get the Android 4.0 update the company promised them, according to a newly revised upgrade chart. The phones will continue to run Android 2.3, dealing another blow to the integrity of Google’s upgrade program.

On the Android side things don’t look any better. Yes, I’ve altered the link to remove mention from my site of Android’s code names. Yes, Apple’s code names aren’t much better. Being the team lead on project “Uzi” would have been cool though.

Torque Movie End (YouTube)

Worst ending ever.

  1. Jeffrey says:

    - I am starting to doubt the creditability of factcheck.org

    - Its sad to hear about the drop in support for the ipad 1, but it still received more updates than any android device I’ve ever owned.
