Kirby Ferguson: Embrace the Remix

We are not self-made. We are dependent on one another. Admitting this to ourselves isn’t an embrace of mediocrity and derivativeness, it’s a liberation from our misconceptions.

Ted Talk from the creator of Everything is a Remix. Not sure how I missed this but still worth checking out.

At 42, Detroit Lions Kicker Earns Admiration

As the NFL’s regular season gets under way this weekend, one player is adding another year to an already record-setting career. At 42, Detroit Lions place kicker Jason Hanson is the oldest active player in the NFL.

Jason Hanson is awesome, nice to see his accomplishments getting some attention.

The Ten Year Decline of Sony

Everyone expects amazing quality and technological leaps from Sony products, but most people don’t have the money to buy them due to economical reasons.  If Sony changed their strategy and started manufacturing cheap products, it would go against everything that the Sony brand stands for.

Damned if you do damned if you don’t.  Charts in the article are rather staggering. The drop from their glory days of the PS2/PSP era to the PS3/Vita feels these days could happen to any company.

→ Sleeping Dogs Soundtrack (YouTube)

For Sleeping Dogs, we came up with a mix of funky soul, gangsta beats, indie, heavy and oldies with a dash of Cantopop that should satisfy the most discriminating listeners.

Disregard the pun but Sleeping Dogs is the sleeper hit of the year. Nice cross of the fun and randomness from San Andreas, insanity from Saints Row 3, and realism from GTA4. The voice cast is also superb. Soundtrack is surprisingly eclectic, whoever thought to include a Roadrunner station is a genius.

→ “I am the one who knocks”

Recently Gallery 1988 in California put on an art show based around the hit TV show “Breaking Bad”. At this show many great pieces were produced including a resin figure based on Bryan Cranston’s character Walter White’s alter ego Heisenberg.

From vanlandw.com reader my father. The pieces are really cool and I agree with the post that the translucent blue figure is awesome. This also reminded me of this awesome scene with Walt and Skyler from season 4.

Why does coffee never taste as good as it smells?

The act of swallowing the drink sends a burst of aroma up the back of the nose from inside the mouth, activating a “second sense of smell” in the brain that is less receptive to the flavour, causing a completely different and less satisfying sensation.

I believe this is more most people don’t know how to make good coffee. This is not to discredit the smell of coffee isn’t one of the best things in the world.

→ Mitt Romney will never be president

Mitt Romney, flushed and shifty-eyed, stepped to a podium Wednesday morning with a chance to disavow the despicable late-night attack his campaign launched on President Obama. Instead he intensified it, and that’s why he’ll never be president.

Let us reasonable folks count the reasons why Mitt Romney will never be president…

Younger people expect inheritance that won’t exist

Nearly 40% of Generation Z, those ages 13 to 22, expect to receive an inheritance, according to a recent TD Ameritrade study. As a result, they don’t believe that they will need to save for retirement.
