[...] In the past I tried Pownce and at that time I wasn’t really in the mood to try a service like that. Also Pownce seems more along the lines of sharing files and photos then what Twitter is trying to do. I also think Twitter could be a good middle ground for what I’m trying to do with my blog and google reader. [...]

vanlandw, that is actually a good idea. I'm not sure how that site really works. what you upload sizes are and what not. I'll activate my invite and check it out. perhaps some good can come out of it. maybe i'll be able to put up hig res versions of my photos instead of the lower res ones on my site currently.

Very passionate commenter's on my website!!

I believe I'll end up using the website very much how I use facebook. I login maybe once ever 2-3 weeks at work or when I have some downtime. Check up on the few people I know that I don't see on a regular basis, and wish those people would just comment on my website ;-)

I'm not a big fan of social networking either. I like sites like last.fm and flickr where I can share something or get statistics. I'm also not very popular and don't have a lot of friends or people to check up on. And I don't like sharing that much about myself either I assume if people know me they know what I like. My blog will always be the best way to find anything out.

FLO - you should upload some photographs.

i feel i should defend myself, as #4 as entered "the convo" :P

while i admit that e-mail is fine (sometimes) for this sort of thing, it is not necessarily the best format for sharing large pieces of content - especially those pieces over 100 MB - with multiple people. i am reminded of the clusterfuck conversations we had re: bachelor parties, etc.

that being said, we are actually pretty old school. the core user base for pownce are people a bit younger than us who text message and social message online instead of e-mail anyway.

THAT being said, obviously i'm not going to use pownce on any regular basis, I'm just defending the idea.

Russ, there is actually a revolutionary way to share 'scraps' and 'files' from your desktop. It's called "Send an email to the person and put an attachment."

The pownce website is fucking stupid. Social networking sites as a whole are fucking stupid.

gg vanlandw for not using it.

once again vanbergs is just dead wrong. the people at digg that developed pownce don't need to consult interweb experts like steve to know that there is a popular online site called "Facebook" and that they shouldn't just try to copy it for no reason.

pownce is a website for sharing scraps of information, notably actual files from your desktop. the social aspect of it is important, of course, but it is far removed from facebook. i have mentioned this before to vanlandw: pownce is for people too lazy to blog, and who want to share information instantaneously. the ajax helps with that as well.
