Ef You Treyarch...

Passports are Expensive etc…

Today I traversed to the Grand Rapids Post Office and applied for a U.S Passport. After getting charged $98.05 cents and the horribly bad news of a 8-10 weeks wait I was left pondering why this is so expensive and why the wait is so long.

First it cost me around $6 dollars to get a valid passport photo from Meijers. After the big cost and after hearing the Post Office only takes debit (shocked nobody has created ihatefifththird.com) pile on another .50 cent charge. I could have put in a request for “expedited service” but that would have cost over $170 dollars.

The lady at the post office told me the wait would be “roughly” 8-10 weeks. Right on the top and in RED BOLD the Passport Homepage shows the following….

“Passport Processing Times Have Increased Due to High Volume.”

I loath high volume. Regardless, hopefully mine will come quickly. Right now I’m really looking forward to taking a overseas trip!

Speaking of trips this weekend is Payner’s Wedding.  Another of my valued former roommates is getting married, thus another gala (more dancytime?) to celebrate such activities. Much to my chagrin the gato is leaving for the UK for an extended period of time.  After the wedding I will be traveling to the Detroit Metro Airport to provide farewells. I have Friday off work and plan on being in Ann Arbor early afternoon for some cocktails and swimming.  Monday is the 24 season finale, bauercount will sadly be updated for the final time in 2007, and I’m sure I’ll be doing it intoxicated.

See everybody next Monday….brb….

  2. Kramer says:

Why do you want a passport? Other countries suck.

BRB. See y’all on Friday :-*?

  3. Megan says:

I want to hug Russ. Kramer used a kissy face. Other countries do suck. Yay Payner! Wesley, you will enjoy ‘overseas’ tremendously.

I may go through all your old posts and count how many of them cite anger towards spending money :-P

No that is some bullshit on passports, for real. If we want to fly somewhere, we goddamn should be able to do that, and only have our wallets incur the wrath of airline anal rapings, not that of local/federal governments. If you’re going in the last week of June, I may honestly stow-away in your carry-on luggage.

I think I’m going to wear sweatpants to Payner’s wedding.

Vanlandw: Do you realize that this will be the 5th season finale of 24 that we will have viewed together. Oh the baby.

  5. Kramer says:

IT is amazing no one has created ihatefifththird.com. They are the worst bank known to man.

  6. Megan says:

Vanbergs, please wear sweatpants and a dirty wifebeater. Amazing. And carry a can of PBR the whole night.

  7. vanlandw says:

Clearly if anybody is going to be obtaining waisted it’s going to be the edge :-P

Also 5/3 is awful. I have considered switching to Mercantile multiple times. When I get my “finances” in order I will think about it :-P

I write about money things because because it’s frustrating and blogs really are about venting.

vanbergs when is your time off i don’t have much of anything to do most of june…maybe i’ll take a few days off as well

you are all great people for commenting on my blog..thank you :-P

  8. bergs says:

Vanlandw – I have the entire last week of June off. I am very excited for this development. I’ve honestly debated just getting in my car and driving out west with no particular destination or plan in mind.

  9. Vo says:

See, that’s why I’m at Chase.

Passport are ridiculously expensive. And to think I lost mine after Jamaica……

I shall arrive in Ann Arbor late afternoon, and then I shall drink.

I am closing my account at 5/3rd soon, since the manager told me that it might be better for me to take my business elsewhere.

Soon thereafter, expect ihatefifththird.com or ihate53.com

  11. Jeff says:

btw, in this incarnation, vanlandw has complained about spending money in at least 121 posts.

  12. vanbergs says:

lmfao, is that number accurate, fulljeff?

  13. vanlandw says:

what he means is my wordpress blog has “121 posts all time and 26 posts this year ” thus every post i’ve written that is on vanlandw.com right now is about complaining about money

    lol :-P

    You’re adorable :-*.

Thanks everyone for a fantastic Payner-Rothney union weekend!!!

Someone post vanlandw to my person. Wessie – You had better get that expensive passport in time to share this suite with me :-) . I could fit 10 chinamen in bed with me and another 2 on the sofa. It’s seriously the Weber room on steroids without Nintendo (I have a PS2 instead).

    Post GH2 as well. Cheers.

  15. Jeff says:

FYI, you can also fit chinamen in dresser drawers, etc…

  16. Vo says:

Chinamen also make excellent bookshelves. They are so modular. Just stack them right up and there you go.

  17. Megan says:

    Is the Gato IN China????

  18. vanlandw says:

the gato is in the UK ;-)

  19. Reggie says:

Landw. You have indeed wasted your money on a passport. Unfortunately I hope you left some extratime as the damned process is a cluster-fuck. I applied for my passport in Early March (Mar. 9, but who’s counting?) and at current I have received nothing but anger at the things I could have spent my money on.

  20. vanlandw says:

Reggie – Yeah the entire process is just totally screwed. It’s mind boggling your paying for a service that is going to take so long to deliver. You would assume our government would pick it up and hire more passport approval people to pick up the load. Total asses..
